Through processes of moving, witnessing each other and reflecting on the moving process, we co-develop scores which we return to again and again. Out of this cyclical practice, we are slowly accumulating movement material/imagery which reflects the content/subject matter that is surfacing between us and which responds sensitively to the places in which we are working.
Grounding Score
Grounding Score 1.6
(Leicester, Sept 22)
inviting the tactility of the space into the body listening … bone to ground joints to corner jointed pliant tissues … elastic stillness outer edges of feet the floor speaking back allowing the space to imprint the body … edgeless-ness (continuity unfolding) kneading the space feeling into boundaries
Shaping Overscore (Sept 2022) Following spirals Taking them to a point The endpoint of that trajectory Holding stillness Elastic extension in the stillness (drawing out) That then rebounds/redirects (M remarked that this score functions as a kind of opening) … The ‘spatial behaviour’ of this score is about allowing the space to become present. … Ground is very important anchor in the score Awareness is thick Recalling difference and sameness in returning bones/joints simplicity in the score Returning is about finding difference / refinement of returning through difference M playing with acknowledgement of score content that is being verbalised The verbalisation of the score enables a participation from audience-witnesses?
Cocoon Score
Cocoon Score 1.3
(Leicester, Sept 22)
returning inwards embryonic density tissue of the lungs: bloodful deepening the outbreath … enveloping incremental pouring ... thickness of time volume sustained - bound depth … suspended webbed the spiral tissue of the heart … tucking woven into space being held comforting compression cocoon
Collected harvestings on cocoon score (Leicester, Sept 22) [audience slowed down with me – radically sustaining the dropping down — really going down and down and down even if movement trajectory was up – less embryonic this time but more deepening the presence] … Attention to minutae, a zooming in within a contained space The images of suspension, being suspended and holding threads of suspension Spanning outward from a turning inward Slowly spinning Coming into the edges of space, becoming one with the membrane Material gut condensed thick … Spatial behaviour of this score is about enclosing/condensing/thickening space … Quality of searching in the material Curious about eyes/mouth Searching for liquidity and sense of pouring = stillness and suspension How does this score differ from grounding? What is the threshold between grounding and cocoon?
Bull Score
Bull Score 1.2
(Leicester, Sept 22)
left psoas hook … crown of head in connection with tail protruding pressing against density tensioning the space prowling … standing ground warrioress … commanding confronting taking space full presence … cauldron of pelvis gut earth a sense of central emanation spilling and filling tendrils of gut reaching into space expanding and recoiling agitating space … sharp elbows Marionette
Collected harvestings on Bull score (Leicester, Sept 22) [intentional shift of the head / maybe also intentional shift of tail] … Body architecture Pushing out Protruding Letting go of image, staying with quality Could embodiment be more qualitative Felt disembodied Noting that there are x3 timings within score Defiance of material – to walk across lines … Spatial behaviour is intersecting space … Bull much easier to access – legs/head-tail as markers – there is a clarity in anatomical imagery which supports it Felt the presence/imprint of the other two scores in the material More animal than human Anchoring of pelvis in relation to spine Soft spine/bony spine as useful resources More active breath in material …
